From the Vault

Okay, so some of you know that I parted ways with and am no longer writing or going to write for the website BrooWaha.com.  My reasons for that are a few posts back and there really isn’t anything more I’m going to say about it other than I know I did the right thing in walking away.  I’ve been asked by a couple of people since my departure about all the articles that I had contributed there.  There were over 100 of them over the past 5 years.  What’s to happen to them?  Well, none of them are available anymore.  Once I was gone, so went the articles.  However, I have them all, and I own them, and I am free to post them all again if I so choose.  That won’t happen, of course, since many of them were written around the news events at the time and are no longer relevant.
However there were quite a few that weren’t about current events or the politics of the day; the more conversational ones that varied in topic.  Starting tomorrow, I will begin a series of posts called “From the Vault” which will showcase those articles I always personally liked.  This way, they are still available for those who would find themselves inclined to read them - or for those who would actually be interested in seeing what they were.
I can not guarantee that they will be as interesting to you as they were to me, of course, but honestly, I have nothing to lose in posting some of them again.  Even at the time, they all didn’t work (and that was usually determined by how they were rated and how much discussion they generated, which was the real way I personally determined whether or not they worked.)  Sometimes they went up and died stillborn - no discussion, no comments, no nothing.  Just sigh and say “oh well” and move onto the next one.  Perhaps some new readers will find those failures interesting, I don’t know.  But I think it would be a good idea to expand the parameters of this blog somewhat.  I never (or hardly ever) posted any of these articles on the blog for the simple reason that I wanted to make sure that the traffic went to the site directly - and thereby potentially bringing the readers to all the other great writers the site once had.  Made sense to me at the time.  Why go there if you could have read them here, right?  It was a practical decision at the time -  and a specific way to drive up traffic there.  I forced you to read it there.  Anyway, now that those days are over, any essays or articles I feel inclined to write will now appear here.  It is a blog about writing, after all, and quite specifically, my writing and to document the “journey” so to speak.  If I’m going to utterly fail, why not do it publicly?

Julian, you will never fail. You are one of the best writers I know. Reading your work, from the smallest of poignant poems, to in-depth novels of tremendous character studies and journeys through your eyes, is a travel I will take, a path I will follow anywhere.

That is very kind of you Cher, thank you. I suppose I was only being half-serious with that - but I think you know what I mean. You just never know what's going to work. Sometimes the things you swear to yourself are your best pieces of work sometimes disappear into the void and the things you think weren't so great turn out to have a lot of responses and attention. I certainly felt that way about the articles sometimes.

But I will accept your compliments with open arms! :-) Thank you again for your kind words and endless support. And thanks for being there as well.

Julian,
Why the negative thoughts?
You are your worst critic, set that aside and let your readers enjoy your elequently written words were they should be, on your own blog.

Thank you! I plan on it. And you're right, we are often our own worst critics at times. I guess that just comes with the territory. But I will, over the coming weeks, definitely be putting up some of the old articles on here - try to give them new life. Thank you. :-)

So happy to hear you are reposting some of your older articles as I missed some of them. I loved the Summer series you had (at that other place) where you spoke of your writing career. I couldn't wait to read them each morning over a cup of coffee. :-)

Looking forward to the new series.

Thank you Katy. I'm not going to re-post ALL of them, though, since some of them were very time specific - dealing with certain current events that are no longer relevant, etc. But there are a couple coming up over the weekend.

Those writing posts that you liked are ALL on here, by the way - they were some of the earlier ones. I had them here before they went "there" but had been reluctant to submit them there because it seemed too personal for a site that was supposed to be more for general readers. In any case, you can find them here if you ever wanted to refer to them.

Thanks again!
